CARLOS WAGNER

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, the stage director got his diploma in acting at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Furthermore he studied dance and fine arts before he consecrated himself to directing opera. In a masterclass with Ruth Berghaus he staged Alban Berg’s „Wozzeck“ …

There followed noumerous works in the european range, among others in Barcelona Palomar’s „La cabeza del bautista“, in Leipzig Schönberg’s „die glückliche Hand“, at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich Glass‘ „der Untergang des Hauses Usher“, at Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London „Ades‘ „Powder her face“, in Nancy „la vie parisienne“, as well as several producions in Wiesbaden, among them „Don Giovanni“ and „Gianni Schicchi / L’Heure espagnole“.

 

Furthermore he realized „Un ballo in maschera“ in Bordeaux, „Rigoletto“ and „La Bohème“ in Alden-Biesen (Belgium), „Il barbiere di Siviglia“ in Coburg and „The rake‘s progress“ in Nancy. Last he staged the world premiere of the original version of Donizetti’s „Le duc d‘ Albe“ in Antwerpen, „La Damnation de Faust“ in St.Gallen, „Carmen“ and „Luisa Miller“ in Düsseldorf/Duisburg, „Der fliegende Holländer“ in Kiel and „Curlew River/The prodigal son“ in Vienna.

Future projects comprise „Macbeth“ in Kiel, „I due Foscari“ in St.Gallen as well as the world premiere of Battistelli’s „Il medico dei pazzi“ in Nancy. With „Werther“ he is giving his Aalto debut.
