Born in Sofia, the opera director has been living in Germany since 1982. She studied music theater directing at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin, assisted with Ruth Berghaus and was a master student of Peter Konwitschny. Since 1998 she is internationally active. One of her most important productions is The Ring of the Nibelung at the Frankfurt Opera (2010 to 2012). Recent directorial works include u. a. at the Theater Erfurt The Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2016), at the Theater Basel Peter Ruzickas Hölderlin (2015) and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin Meyerbeers L'Africaine / Vasco da Gama (2015).
In 2020 she will stage 'Don Carlos' at the Salzburg Festival.
Her directorial work led Vera Nemirova to the Salzburg Festival (Bergs Lulu 2010), to the Berlin State Opera (Traettas Antigona 2011), to the Vienna State Opera (Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades and to Verdi's Macbeth) and to the Frankfurt Opera, where she staged Wagner's Ring Tetralogy between 2010 and 2012. In the Verdi Wagner year 2013 Tristan and Isolde followed at the Oper Bonn, at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest Verdi's Otello and in Basel Wagner's Lohengrin. Her staging of the opera Katerina Ismaylowa by Dmitri Shostakovich at the Ruse March Music Days was named staging of the year 2015 and awarded the most important classical music award in Bulgaria, the Crystal Lyra.
